Margaret Grace (Bockenstedt) Griffin, 67, of Randleman, N.C. died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greeley, with Rev. Kenneth Glaser officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Greeley.
Margaret was born June 10, 1934, in Colesburg, the daughter of Arthur Isadore and Stella (Weber) Bockenstedt of Greeley. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Charles C. Griffin, M.D. They were married Sept. 17, 1976, in Earlville and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year.
Margaret, "Maggie" loved to be out of doors. She was a master gardener and her garden had a colorful array of plants and flowers that she tended with loving hands. She often spoke of the aroma of spring and the beautiful colors in fall.She was the epitome of motherhood and quintessential homemaker. Margaret found beauty in everything and good in everyone.
Her true love, however, was her husband, Charles. Their love was untouchable by time and was contagious and admired by family and friends. Charles had once written these words in praise of his beloved Maggie.
I will stop time with my love for you, I will set the hands at a quarter to eight eternally-- Because for our love, time is not.
His Maggie Darling will be in out thoughts and hearts forever.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Charles, of Randleman, N.C.; five sisters, Maxine Westrom of Cedar Rapids, Mary Ryan of New Hampton, Lyla Tilp of Rock Island, IL. Nancy Beatty of Edgewood, and Judith Nurre of Edgewood; one brother, Daniel Bockenstedt of Greeley; five children, David Bartels of Walnut Creek, CA. Bruce Bartels of Platteville, WI. Amy Weckworth of Randleman, N.C., Kenneth Bartels of Cloudcroft, NM., and Timothy Bartels of Portland, OR., 10 step-children, Jean Erickson of Remsen, Barbara Hurley of Easton, CT., Mary Knipper of Dyersville, Charles C. Griffin III of Washington, D.C., Amy Lueck of Des Moines, Thomas Griffin of Eastman, WI., Kathleen Peden of Newport, N.C., Patricia Griffin of Oxford, Maureen Mays of Des Moines, and Nancy Beland of Storrs, CT.; 11 grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild; and many friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Stella Bockenstedt of Greeley, IA.

Leonard-Muller Funeral Home and Crematory, Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
