Mrs. V. McElmeel of Earlville Dies:Funeral Saturday
Earlville Special
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for Mrs. Verna McElmeel, 69, lifelong resident of the area, who died at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque on Thursday at 1:35 a.m. following more than 5 weeks of illness.
The Rev. Edmund J. Buckes officiated and burial was in the Delhi cemetery. The Clifton funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Verna Akers, daughter of the late Elmer Akers and Nancy Midkiff, was born at Hazel Green, Wisc. on May 4, 1886. She was married to Martin McElmeel, who died 23 years ago. For a number of years, Mrs. McElmeel lived on a farm south of Earlville, later moved to Dyersville and a few years ago to Earlville, which has been her home since.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. J. R. (Doris) Denkhoff and Mrs. Robert (Verona) March of Dyersville and 1 son Clair of Earlville and a number of grandchildren. Three sons, Donald, Elmer and Martin preceded her in death.
Mrs. McElmeel was a member of St. Joseph's church of Earlville, the Ladies' Guild and St. Ann's Discussion club at that church and the E. O. T. Club of Delhi. Rosary was at the Clifton funeral home Friday evening.
