Obituary of Sarah Jane Hull Dalrymple
Sarah Jane Hull, daughter of Henry O. and Charlotte Owens Hull, was born April 18, 1846, in the town of Hazel Green, Grant County, Wisconsin and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Bradke of Hopkinton, Iowa, August 18, 1918.
In the Spring of 1850, she with her parents came to Delaware County and settled on the farm four miles northwest of Hopkinton where she grew to womanhood. On May 3, 1868, she was united in marriage to John Allen Dalrymple and they commenced life together in the home of the husband's parents. Later they went to a home of their own built on the adjoining piece of land three miles northwest of Hopkinton and here they lived until they moved to the town of Hopkinton twenty-five years ago. To this union were born three children, Roxanna Ellen, Henry Allen, and Rosetta Jane.
Mrs. Dalrymple avowed the Christian life many years ago and she became more and more steadfast until the end came. She was a woman of high ideals and of lofty aims. Being of a retiring disposition her Christianity was best known by the ones in the family circle and among her friends. She was true to the religion of Jesus Christ and her light shone through her deeds. As a mother she was devoted to her family and they were always first in her thoughts. Her hand was one of service and her life one of loving sacrifice. It might also be said of her "she hath done what she could."
Because of some indisposition Mrs. Dalrymple was a great sufferer for many years. In her suffering she was patient and her Christian fortitude was constant until the end came last Sunday morning at a quarter past eight o'clock. She passed away quietly, restfully and peacefully. A good woman has gone from the community and her place can never be filled in the home circle or among her friends. Like all who are faithful unto the end, she has gone to her reward and her works do follow her.
Left to mourn the loss of Mrs. Dalrymple: three children, Mrs. W. C. Bradke of Hopkinton, Mrs. George Nordman of Hopkinton, Rev. H. A. Dalrymple of Burlington, Iowa who is District Elder of the Free Methodist Church: two brothers, C. N. Hull of Hopkinton and James Hull of Valentine, Nebraska; six grandchildren and a number of distant relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held in the Hopkinton Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon. By request Rev. W. G. Rowley used Proverbs 31:29 as the text for the sermon. Interment was in the Hopkinton cemetery beside the body of her husband who was laid to rest last winter.
