Anna Fenstermann
Edgewood Special:
Anna Marea Fenstermann, daughter of Bernard and Anna Wessel Fenstermann, was born Oct. 27, 1871 in the vicinity of Motor, a small community south of Elkader, and passed away at the Fairview Nursing Home in Manchester July 16, 1958 at the age of 86 years. She had suffered a long illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 18 in the Methodist church at Edgewood with the Appleton Funeral service in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Russell Wilson officiated and music was provided by Mrs. Howard Sampson at the piano and Orren and Richard Sampson, soloists.
When Miss Fenstermann was seven years old her mother passed away and the little girl lived with relatives for five years. At that time her father established a home and she became the homemaker until the death of her father in 1907. For two years she held the position of housekeeper for a family at Storm Lake.
In 1909 her eldest brother, Henry mourned the death of his wife who left a family of five children ranging in age from ten years to three months. She devoted her time to this motherless family until they established homes of their own. For several years she was housekeeper for Mrs. Nellie Flenigan and later made her home with the nieces and nephews she had cared for in earlier life.
She reflected the strong religious example of her parents, was a member of the Wood Methodist church and was a regular attendant at church until her health failed. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She is survived by the following nieces and nephews; Wesley Fenstermann of Strawberry Point; Howard of Edgewood; Mrs. Harold (Estella) Johnson of Garrison; Dorothy of Waterloo; Carl of Oneida; Ruben of Janesville, Wis.; Garold of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Lawrence of Rockford, Ill.; Almon and Mrs. Joe (Alice) Cira of Marion and Orval of Colesburg, and nineteen grandnieces and nephews.
