Henry Reed was born in Marshalltown, West Virginia, June 15, 1835, lived there till the year of 1878 then went to Russell county, Kansas. Six years later came to Davis City, Iowa. Served three years in the Civil war. Shortly after the close of the war was married to Mary J. Sprigs, August, 1865. He was the father of five children. All have passed away/ Has three grandchildren in Decatur county, Iowa: Clarence, Vera and Georgia Cartwright six grandchildren in Nebraska: Lola, Eva, .Tames, Clarence and Louise Piercy. Later he was married to Maria Davis on June 25, 1905, and lived together fourteen years, one month and six days, passing away at his home in Davis City, Aug. 6, 1919, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 22 days. He joined the Presbyterian church at the age of 19 years and afterward joined the Methodist church at Kansas, coming to Davis City he maintained the same relation also acted as an exhorter in the Metho dist church for a number of years. The services were held at the Union church, conducted by Rev. John Goben of Lucas, Iowa, assisted by the Methodist pastor of Davis City
