Iowa, USAFarm Woman Gets Third Degree Burns From Home Blaze. Mrs. Lawrence Meade, farm woman living four miles Northwest of Milton, suffered third degree burns at her home Monday, March 22 about 11 p.m. when her clothing caught fire. She had turned in the alarm over the telephone and had succeeded in extinguishing the blaze when neighbors arrived. A fuel oil can was in the yard and had been in flames. It was thought she might have been pouring oil into the tank on the stove when the accident occurred. Nothing was burned about the house. She was taken by neighbors to the Bloomfield hospital where her condition was unchanged Tuesday. Van Buren, March 25, 1954
Margaret Beatrice Meade, daughter of William J. and Margaret Vanderlinden, was born at Eddyville, Ia., on August 7, 1910, and passed away at the University Hospital at lowa City, April 8, 1954, at the age of 43 years, 8 months, and 1 day. She was brought by her parents in early childhood to a farm in the Troy vicinity where she grew to womanhood. She attended the rural schools and the Troy High school where she graduated with the class of 1929. She was united in marriage to Lawrence. Meade on Nov. 7, 1931 at Monmouth, Ill. To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter. After her marriage, she located on a farm northwest of Milton where she spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Meade was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, ever ready to make any sacrifice for her home and children. Her humble and self sacrificing spirit made her many friends. The tragic accident which came to her on March 22, was a shock to the entire community, and the beginning of two and one-half weeks of valiant struggle to save her life, first in the Davis County hospital and she was then transferred to the University Hospital at Iowa City. Neighbors and friends gave of their help and all that medical Science could do, was done that her life might be spared, but this was not to be. The day before her death she realized that she could not live and gave her testimony, that she was ready to go, and finally entered the rest that crowns a devoted life. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Lawrence M. Meade, and her children, Luzon and Leonard; three brothers, Leonard Vanderlinden of Williamsburg, Iowa, Cornelius Vanderlinden of Promise City, Iowa, and Marion Vanderlinden of Bloomfield; one sister, Mrs. Wilma Roby of Milton, Iowa, 10 nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was precded in death by her father in 1924, and her mother in 1942. Funeral services were held at the Milton Methodist church Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m., conduded by Rev. Arthur M, Eastman of the Pulaski Methodist church. The body was laid to rest in the Sunnyside cemetery. -Davis County Republican, April 13, 1954
