Charles Worth Hoff: (Genealogical Data Entry): Born 25 Aug 1880 in Dallas Co., IA. He was the 8th child of JOHN H. HOFF and wife, MARY ANN AKINS. At about age 18 he emigrated to Barhead, Alberta, Canada in ~1898-9, ostensibly to join his 2 older brothers, Oscar C. "Shorty" Hoff and John Cassius Hoff, who had gone to the Klondike in 1898 for the "Gold Rush", had done well, and written encouraged the younger brother to come join them, but "for God's sake, don't do what we did going via the Chilkoot Pass. Instead, come by train to Edmonton, buy a horse and ride it for 6-8 weeks to Dawson", where they intended to meet. Charles did what they suggested, and then crossed his first Canadian river in February on the trail to Dawson, and swore he'd never cross another one. When he got to the second river at Barrhead, he stopped, cut a log cabin, and stayed. He wrote, telling the brothers he wasn't coming. They reportedly visited him enroute back to the "Lower 48", helping him clear the land and prepare to farm. After the Province was platted in 1902-5, he homesteaded, farmed and stayed. In 1907 me married Nellie Cox Morgan, and they had 4 children: 1. Gerald Hoff (B: 1909, died in infancy, buried in Lunnford, Alb.,Canada); 2. Herbert Charles Hoff (B: 1 Mar 1911 in Lunnford - D: 12 Nov 1986 Lunnford, who married Alice Mabel Wiley of Pickardville, Alb (B:23 Jul 1912). They had 5 children; 3. Paul Gordon (Hoff) Cox (B; 28 Apr 1917 Lunnford, wife Clara, living Edmonton; changed name taking his mother's maiden name in WW11 to avoid military service. No children; 4. Bernice Marie Hoff Hillert (B: 28 Jul 1918, Lunnford, MdH#1 Kenneth Goble (24 Oct 1901- ? Feb 1970), and MdH#2 Adolph Hillert 1913 Poland - ? ). Charles died in Oct 1947 and is buried in the Lunnford Cem., Alb., Canada.
