Mrs. Bergin Spent Practically Her Entire Life in the Vicinity of Kiron

Kiron, Aug. 24 -- (Special to the Review) --Kiron and vicinity has again been called upon to part with a highly esteemed and beloved citizen when Mrs. Charles Bergin passed away at her home three miles north and three miles west of town Tuesday evening, August 18, after a lingering illness of a half year's duration. Although her sufferings were intense she was a most patient and cheerful sufferer. Everything that was possible was done to relieve her pain by the loved hands of her near and dear ones. Up to the very last days she was able to visit with her family and her many friends who constantly called to see her and which she so greatly loved to have them do.

Mrs. Lytie Irene Bergin was born on the Beck homestead near Kiron on June 24, 1877, and passed away at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1931, at the age of 56 years, 1 month and 25 days. Her entire life has been spent in this locality with the exception of a few years spent in Ida Grove. Here she played as a little girl with her playmates, many of whom still recall the memories of school days and girlhood days, days of joy mingled with grief. Her mother passed away when she was but twelve years of age. Her father passed away some years ago.

On May 22, 1895, she was united in marriage to Chas. Bergin of Hayes township, Ida county. This union was blessed with three daughters and on son, namely: Lambert Bergin, Mrs. Pearl Segerstrom, Mrs. Minnie Nordell and Mrs. Ethel Nordell.
Mrs. Bergin was converted in her youth when she became a member of the Friends church in Ida Grove where she remained a member until its expiration. She always lived up to her Christian standards and her christian experience during her illness has been a thing of beauty, verifying the scripture that "Death is beautiful and only a stepping stone to a life of eternal bliss". She was a faithful member of the Friendly Bible class and the Dorcas society of the Kiron Baptist church. She was a true neighbor and friend, always doing good deeds in times of trouble and sickness. She was a loving wife and mother and a pal to every one of her children. She leaves a place that can never be filed.

Besides the bereaved husband and children she leaves five little granddaughters who have always been rays of sunshine in her life, one brother, Theron Beck, and two sisters, Mrs. P. O. Waggoner and Mrs. John Larson all of Hawarden; one brother and one sister having preceded her in death. She is also mourned by her stepmother Mrs. Fred Beck of Hawarden, her daughter-in-law, her sons-in-law and a large number of other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held from the home in Hayes township Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and from the Baptist church in Kiron at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Gordon Carlson, pastor of the Baptist church assisted by the Rev. E. J. Nordlander of Boston, Mass. Special singing was rendered. Beautiful floral offerings were banked about the remains showing the deep love and respect for the departed. Every place available in the church was filled by friends and relatives from near and far. Six Nieces of the departed, Mrs. Clarence Larson, Mrs. Rollin Larson, Mrs. Orrin Larson, Mrs. Lloyd Larson, Mrs. Harold Rossback, and Mrs. Glen Waggoner, acted as flower bearers and six nephews, Clarence and Rollin Larson, Rockley and Bernard Beck and Glen and Merlin Waggoner were pall bearers. Interment was made in the Kiron cemetery beside her parents.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Waggoner. Merlin and Fern Waggoner, Mrs. Fred Beck, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Beck and sons, Rockley and Bernard, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Larson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Waggoner, all from Hawarden; Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Holstrum, from Stratford: Vernie Carlson from Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ewall of Denison, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hill of Lincoln, Neb. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Nord of Omaha. Mrs. E. E. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Williams of Redfield , S. D., Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Teaquist, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Teaquist and Howard Teaquist of Odebolt, Mrs. Elroy Smith, missionary to China home of furlough, an intimate friend , also attended.
