Another of our pioneers and early settlers has passed away from us in death and ended her pilgrimage among men. We refer to the deceased Mrs. Hedda Lovisa Duncan, born Anderson who passed away at the home of C. M. Olson in our village Saturday evening, February 14th, at 10pm (1920?)

Mrs. Duncan was born in Misterhult Soken, Kalmar Lan Sweden, the 24th day of October 1827, being at her death 92 years 3 months and 20 days of age. At the age of 6 years she lost her parents in death, when she was adopted by a Holmberg family in the community whom she later cared for until their death. Early in the year 1868 she came to this country in company with the Clauson family and others, coming to Denison, where she did house work with some family. Later she worked some in Omaha and at a Military post in Sidney where she became acquainted with Charles Duncan.

She was united in marriage to Charles Duncan here in Kiron November 22, 1873, and lived on the farm four miles south of town. This union was soon broken by the death of Mr. Duncan 12 October 1879. Mrs. Duncan continued to live on the farm until 1902 when she came to Kiron to live.

The last 12 years she has been most tenderly cared for at the home of Mrs. C. M. Olson, her sister's daughter. Most wonderfully has she borne her many years just the last three years has she been gradually decreasing in strength and vigor until she most peacefully slept away.

She has enjoyed communion with her Savior for 72 years of her life being a member of the Baptist church since 1860 and when she came here became one of the Charter members in the organization of this church in 1868. With her cheerful disposition she always won many friends, who held her in high esteem. She always had a large heart for the poor and for the missionary cause distributing her means where she thought they were most needed, remembering also the church of which she always was a faithful member. It was her desire that her casket should not be decorated with flowers, but that the money be sent instead to the Children's Home in New Britain, Conn.

Her nearest relatives are Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Olson, and Mr. John Hult in Sioux City. Peaceful is her memory.

A brief out-of-door service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon on account of the sickness in the community.
