I am no relation to this family, But I do have in my possestion a letter of a story by Harry Shaw from Dubuque, Iowa, about his life working on a Steamboat In the Spring of 1905. It does include a man named Abe Mitchell in Clinton, Iowa who was a Captain.
It talks of life on the Steamboat on the river and into S. Dakota, and talks of the redman and going to Montana.
If anyone is interested in the contents of this letter please reply and I will email you the contents of the letter (story).
