SABULA — Clarence W. Notz, age 70, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009, in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in Clarence’s memory. Online condolences and memorial tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.Clarence was born September 11, 1938, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Lillian (Gilbert) Notz. He graduated from Sabula High School. Clarence was married to Janice Kerkove and later divorced. He later married Gayle O. Paisley on December 2, 1979. Clarence served in the United States Navy for twenty years. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal service, retiring after twenty-five years. Clarence most recently worked as the Post Master at Sabula for seven years. He was a member of the Sabula American Legion Post. He was an avid sports fan, watching most any sport on TV.Clarence is survived by one daughter, LaVonne (Orlynn) Hurt of Savanna, Illinois; one son, Kenneth (Tracy) Notz of Clinton, Iowa; two grandchildren, Randy (Ruth) Hurt and Ricky (Fiance Amanda Hoffman) Hurt; three great-grandchildren, Ramsey Hurt, Reese Hurt, and Cody Hurt; and two sisters, Mary Hojnacke of Sabula, and Helen (P.A.) Rummel of Urbana, Ohio. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gayle.Death date: Jan. 30, 2009
