SABULA — Violet M. Hasken, age 93, of Sabula, Iowa, died Monday, January 26, 2009, at The Alverno Care Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Sabula, with Sisiter LuAnn Kilburg officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 at the St. Peters Catholic Church prior to the service on Wednesday. Online condolences and memorial tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.Violet was born on January 29, 1915, the daughter of Peter and Pearl (Jones) Kuhl in Preston, Iowa. She attended Reeseville Country School, rural Miles, Iowa. On August 14, 1933, Violet married John “Lyle” Hasken in Dubuque, Iowa. He passed away on February 27, 1989, in Clinton, Iowa. Violet worked at Sabula Speaker Factory for seventeen years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Sabula Senior Citizen Club. Violet enjoyed life. Most of all she loved spending time with family. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and bingo, and traveling, especially to Branson, Missouri. Violet will be dearly missed by a daughter, Shirley and Charles Humphrey of DeWitt, Iowa; a son, Larry and Sally Hasken of Sabula; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a brother, Wilford Mohr of Dubuque, Iowa; and a sister, Elaine and Ervin Huebner of LeClaire, Iowa. Violet is preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Josie; a brother, Howard; and a daughter, Bonnie.Death date: Jan. 26, 2009
