ALBANY, Ill. — John H. Stevens, age 70, of Albany, IL, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa, after battling cancer for the past 7 months. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at the Albany United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron, IL.Memorials may be given in John’s name to one of the following: Albany Ambulance Association, Albany Youth Baseball Association (AGPYA) or Albany United Methodist Church.John was born to Percy and Clara (Schnowske) Stevens on January 31, 1938, in Alexis, IL. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1956. He married Carolyn Bessie Gray in Richmond, IL, on February 14, 1959.John was co-owner and operator of J and L Hardware in Albany and worked as a bartender and cook at several places in Albany prior to joining 3M in February of 1971. John started at 3M in Cordova, IL, as an hourly production crew member and over the past nearly 39 years has held numerous positions of increased responsibility including a crew leader, crew supervisor and warehouse supervisor. His most recent position was that of IT Manager at the Cordova facility.John was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church, the Albany Lion’s Club and Albany Chamber of Commerce. He held offices for each of those organizations. He was a Village of Albany board member for several years. John was a self taught computer expert and photographer. He had numerous side businesses over the years doing computer consulting and accounting for small area businesses. He loved taking pictures and video recording local weddings and events. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with friends at the local café.John will be dearly missed by his wife, Carolyn; son, Jay and daughter, Sheri Stevens all of Albany; his son, Larry (Sheila) Stevens of Waunakee, WI; and daughter, Lori (Les) Wade of Wrightstown, WI; his brother, Bill (Mary) Stevens of Moline; and sister, Lois (Richard) Walline of Cambridge, IL, and sister-in-law, Katie Stevens of Morrison; grandchildren, John and Jennifer Rose, Sarah and Josh Wade, and Nathan and Trevor Stevens; and 1 great-grandchild. John was preceded in death by both parents and brothers, Keith and Percy Stevens.Death date: Jan. 12, 2009
