CAMANCHE — Joseph M. McDonnell, 58, passed away quietly during his sleep on January 6, 2009, at his home in Camanche, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Everson, Denny Heath, Dan Bedeger and Alan Thompson. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Don Westcott. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Joseph Martin McDonnell was born on November 12, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert and Violet (Malone) McDonnell. He was united into marriage to Faith O'Shogay on September 19, 1970. Joe attended both public and Catholic schools in Clinton. He obtained his GED while in the military. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. Joe was employed for 28 years as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 2000 due to disability. Joe was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Camanche. He was a past member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion and a member of the U.T.U. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting before his disability. His great joy in life was spending time with his grandson, Benjamin. Joe is survived by his wife, Faith, of 38 years; one daughter, Tricia (Jim) Peckosh-Rudin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one son, Joe McDonnell Jr. of Davenport, Iowa; his grandson, Benjamin Peckosh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Mary McClenning and Donna Klahn of Clinton; two brothers, Charlie McDonnell and Gene (Cyndi) McDonnell of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, a grandson and a granddaughter. Memorials can be made to the family.
