SABULA — Mary E. Jorgenson, age 77, of Sabula, Iowa, died January 2, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, Sabula, with the Reverends Tom and Sandra Berryman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula. Memorials may be given in Mary’s name. Online condolences and memorial tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Mary was born on December 18, 1931, the daughter of Stephen F. and Eva D. (Babcock) Haynes in Sabula at their home. She graduated from Sabula High School with the class of 1949. After high school, Mary was married to George W. Phillips on June 26, 1949. He died suddenly on June 15, 1978. Mary was later married to Harold Leroy “Slim” Jorgenson on September 6, 1980, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Slim died on September 14, 2003. Mary was a loving mother who kept busy working for various local companies. She worked for the Collis Company and Burpee Seeds in Clinton, Iowa. She was employed by the Sabula School District as a teacher’s aide. Along with her teacher’s aide responsibilities, she also drove a school bus. Most recently she was a bookkeeper for Country Market in Sabula. She was a longtime member of the Sabula United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary. Mary loved traveling everywhere, from Europe, to her bi-annual trips to Las Vegas, Nevada or to Branson, Missouri, to listen to country music. She enjoyed living close to the Mississippi River, where she could watch the River Boats and Barges pass by and observe the Bald Eagles soaring above. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family and friends. Mary will be dearly missed by two sons, George Phillips of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jim (Dawn) Phillips of Charlotte, Iowa; two daughters, Joan (Bill) Cawley of Silvis, Illinois, and Jennifer (Gary) Zink of Savanna, Illinois; three grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Zink, Jennifer (Wade) Lindstrom, and Tarra (Jason) Voss; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl (Nita) Haynes of Piedmont, South Dakota, and Richard (Nancy) Haynes of Sabula, Iowa; two sisters, Jessie (Rod) Morlan of Roundup, Montana, and Frances (Lorren) Dennison of Central City, Iowa. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, George Phillips and Harold “Slim” Jorgenson; and one daughter-in-law, Susan Phillips.Death date: Jan. 2, 2009
