The Clinton Herald Thursday April 28, 1977 p. 16 Mass of the Christian Burial for Bernhard Lemke, 77, of 421 8th Ave. S., will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Leahy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Mr. Lemke died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital. There will be a prayer service at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Smitz Funeral Home where visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday with the parish Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael and John Dehner, Thomas and David Drews, and Stephen and Matthew Lemke. He was born Oct. 24, 1899, at Nebraska City, Neb., the son of Reinhard and Magdalena Bergg Lemke. He married Margaret Overton in Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 26, 1925. He had been employed as a steam operator by the Veterans Administration for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1969. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of St. Mary’s Church. He is survived by his widow; five sons, Reinhard, John, Karl and Phillip of Clinton and Roger, Cedar Rapids; four daughters, Mrs. Duane (Mary) Wiley, Denver, Colo.,and Mrs. George (Bernadine) Dehner, Mrs. Verne (Ruth) Drews and Mrs. William (Phyllis) Warren; all of Clinton; 40 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and a daughter.
