CLINTON — Maureen E. Witt, 84, of the Prairie Hills Living Center, Clinton, IA, died Sunday, December 7, 2008, at the living center.Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Clinton, IA. Father Anthony Herold, pastor Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Clinton, IA, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the North Chapel of the Lemke Funeral Home, Clinton, IA, with a 4:00 p.m. vigil service. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Clinton.Memorials may be given to Mass offerings.She was born November 11, 1924, in Preston, IA, to Matthew E. and Elizabeth S. (Dever) Cain. She was a graduate of the Mount Saint Clare Academy and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, both in Clinton, IA. She married Vernon H. Witt on August 20, 1946, in Preston, IA. He died June 23, 2003. She was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Maureen was employed by Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA, as an obstetrics nurse for many years. She and her husband co-founded along with Dick and Kaye Hess Air Control Inc. in Clinton, IA. She was a member of Jesus Christ Prince of Peace, Clinton, IA. For many years she was an active volunteer in the Christian Family Movement and co-founded, along with her twin sister, the Share Food Program in Clinton, IA. In 2002, she was inducted into the Mount Saint Clare Hall of Fame. Survivors include four daughters, Sheila (Mrs. Michael) Coonen of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Witt of San Francisco, CA, Mary Pat (Mrs. James) Connell of Clinton, IA, and Ann (Mrs. Michael) Pittman of Clinton, IA; three sons, Stephen Witt of Grinnell, IA, Joseph (Carolyn) Witt of Clinton, IA, and Michael (Susan) Witt of Grinnell, IA; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Sullivan of Clinton, IA, Mrs. Kathryn Caron of Clinton, IA, Angela (Mrs. Bill) McMahon of Cincinnati, OH, Roberta (Mrs. Milton) Oberman of Andrew, IA; two brothers, Francis (Betty) Cain of Dixon, IL, and Robert (Joan) Cain of Goose Lake, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; three sons, Thomas, James and Edward Witt; two sisters, Mary Margaret McDermott and Eileen Bly; two brothers, Edward and Raymond Cain.
