Clayton County Register, 14 Nov. 1957.

Funeral services for Donald Joseph Fischer were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 9:00 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Strawberry Point, the Rev. Father Robert Palen officiating.

Born Nov. 17, 1956, at Oelwein, he was the son of Sylvester and Rose Louise (Meis) Fischer. Late Sunday afternoon, about 5:30, Mrs. Fischer left the house for about twenty minutes to (go) after the cows. When she returned she found the child unconscious in his crib. He was taken immediately to a local physician but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Clayton County Coroner Clif Pilkington pronounced the death accidental by strangulation. The child had somehow become entangled in a plastic exerciser for his crib.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Fischer, three sisters Mary Beth, Carol Ann and Barbara Jean, one brother, David Lee, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Vita Meis of Edgewood and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fischer of Strawberry Point. Interment was at St. Mary's cemetery at Strawberry Point.
