Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 11, 1957, from McTaggart's funeral home at 9:00 a.m. to St. Joseph's Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. for Miss Addie Barton, who died Nov. 08, after a short illness, at the Mercy hospital in Oelwein.
Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Tom Barton Jr., Dan Barton, Charles Barton, James Corkery, Norbert Niemeyer and Ed Finley.
Addie Barton was born near Volga in Sperry township May 17, 1876, and had been a resident of Elkader for over 50 years. She had operated the Exchange shop in her home for the past eight years.
Miss Barton is survived by two brothers, Ray Barton, who lived with his sister, and Tom Barton of Elkader.
Four brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Relatives and friends from out-of-town who attended the funeral were: Hugh Corkery and son, Hugh Jr., Paul Corkery, John Corkery, Mary Corkery, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barton Jr., Charles Barton, Chicago; Miss Irene Corkery and Mrs. Helen Stoops and family, and Dan Raftis, Oelwein; Miss Marion Barton, Chatfield, Minn.; Alice, Ellen, Edna and Richard Corkery, Wadena; V. D. Blake, Volga; Mr. and Mrs. John Corkery, Sumner; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Corkery, Fairbank; the Rev. Cletus J. Hawes, Dubuque, and Mrs. Ralph Koons, Cedar Rapids.
