MONONA: Funeral services for Hadwin W. M'Cann, 63, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Schultz funeral home with the Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Monona city cemetery. Military rites at the grave were conducted by Leslie H. Smith Post 519 of the American Legion.
Services were conducted also Sunday afternoon, March 24, at the West End funeral home in Chicago Heights, Ill., with the Rev. Milo V. Vonracek officiating.
Mr. M'Cann died Friday, March 22, at Chicago Heights, Ill., after suffering a heart attack Sunday, March 17.
He was born at Volga City, Aug. 26, 1893, the son of George and Pernelia M'Cann. The family moved to Fayette where his boyhood was spent and where he graduated from high school and Upper Iowa University. His college work was interrupted by 18 months of military service during World War !. Later he took graduate work at the State college at Ames. He spent his life as a teacher and coach in high school. From 1919-1921, he was director of boys' athletics and taught industrial arts in the Monona high school.
He was married to Margaret E. Orr in 1920. In 1921, they moved to Cresco, where he was an instructor in the high school for two years before going to Valley City, N.Dak., where he taught for one year. He was an instructor in the Dubuque high school from 1924 to 1926, when they moved to Chicago Heights, Ill. He was an instructor in industrial arts and coached the high school here until 1951, when ill-health forced his retirement. In addition to his highly successful teaching career, he was active in community life. He was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis, and the Industrial Arts association. In addition he was a life member of the national honorary society of Psi Chi and of the Lincoln Athletic club in Chicago Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, numerous relatives, and many friends. Among the latter are many athletes he coached and taught valuable lessons.
Music for the services was provided by Mrs. George Martin and Mrs. Thomas James. Mrs. Ivon Schultz was the accompanist.
Pall bearers were: Raymond Schrody of Elkader, Willis Lamker, Glendor Drahn, William Tapper, Dugald Thompson, and Kenneth Thompson.
