Clayton County Register, 27 Nov. 1941.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 at the late home near Volga City, and at 2:00 p.m. at the Frieden's Evangelical church for Mrs. Augusta Dohrer. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. P. Kitterer officiated.
Mrs. Augusta Dohrer, daughter of John Meyer and his wife Mary, was born February 23rd, 1882, in Boardman township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at her home in Cox Creek township, November 17, 1941, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 22 days.
The deceased spent her entire life in Clayton county and lived on the place she died ever since her marriage in the year 1904. She was united in marriage to Charles Dohrer on June 14th, 1904. Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1937.
Nine children were born to this union. One child died in infancy and the eight surviving children are: John Dohrer of Elkader; Mrs. Martha Crimmins and Mrs. Hilda Clough, both of Dubuque, Harold Dohrer of Garber, Mrs. Katherine Nelson of Elkader, Mrs. Mildred Knutson of Wadena, and Charles and Robert at home.
Mrs. Dohrer has been in failing health for about one year and for the past month has been confined to her bed. In spite of medical skill and the care of loved ones the Lord willed otherwise and called her to her reward.
The deceased was a good mother, a hospitable neighbor and of fine character. Mrs. Dohrer was a member of Frieden's Evangelical church and its Frauen-Verein. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
She leaves to mourn her departure besides the aforenamed children, one brother Chris J. Meyer of Elkader and 13 grandchildren and a large circle of friends.
