Clayton County Register, 05 Nov. 1941.

The deceased, Mrs. August Koehn, born Wilhelmina Krueger, was born August 22, 1869, at Sechausen der Altmark, Germany, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Maehl, October 27, 1941, at the age of seventy-two years, two months and five days.

Mrs. Koehn came to America on the 18th of April 1894, and came direct to Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, and has resided in Clayton county ever since.

On January 28th, 1891 she was married to August Koehn who preceded her in death in the year 1932. Ten children were born to this union. Three children preceded their mother in death. Harley in 1914, Herman in 1925, and Arthur in 1930. The seven surviving children are: Mrs. Anna Beyer, Elkader; Robert Koehn, St. Olaf; Mrs. Lena Maehl, St. Olaf; William Koehn, Elkader; Mrs. Freda Osthoff, Clayton and Miss Hirma Koehn, Dubuque, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Koehn resided on a farm near Communia for twenty-three years. After retiring from the farm they resided in Elkader for four years and since the death of her husband in 1932 she has made her home with John Maehl's where death called her.

Mrs. Koehn enjoyed exceptional health throughout her life and was sick but three days before her death. Rearing a large family the deceased was kept busy with the household duties of a faithful wife and mother and she performed her task well.

The deceased's departure is mourned, besides the aforenamed children, by two sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Koehn of Clayton, and Mrs. Chris Duede, Garnavillo, and also 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services were held from the John Maehl home Thursday afternoon, October 30th, and at Frieden's Evangelical church at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the East Side cemetery, Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
