John Glesne was born in Wagner township on the Ole Glesne farm, February 22, 1859. At the age of twenty he went to North Dakota where he farmed for about ten years. In 1891 he came to Elkader and with his brother, Riley Glesne, started a general merchandise store in which he continued in business with N. E. Glesne and Mike Miller as partners until 1927. He also conducted an implement business in town with G. Bandow as partner for a number of years. For the past ten years he has enjoyed doing light work on his farm in Wagner township. During the last few years he made his home with his niece and family, Mrs. Milda Meyer, at whose home he died January 28, at 9 a.m.
Mr. Glesne was greatly interested in all his nieces and nephews and was instrumental in helping them in many ways.
