Funeral services were held last Tuesday for Mrs. Fred Glawe, Sr., in the Zion's Lutheran church at Clayton Center, the Rev. D. A. Flesner officiating. Casketbearers were: Harold Seeland, Harley Seeland, Rueben Glawe, Erwin Glawe, Arthur Huckstadt and Edwin Kleifoth.
Mrs. Glawe died on January 04th, having reached the age of 70 years, ten months and 26 days.
Mrs. Caroline Augusta Frederika Glawe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kruse, was born in Pomerania, Germany, on the 9th day of February, 1870. She was baptized on February 27th of the same year. When two years old, in June, 1872 she arrived in America with her parents, who settled at Clayton Center, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Glawe on February 05, 1892. To this union were born six children, one of whom, a daughter Hilma, died at the age of two years.
Mrs. Glawe was active in the work of the Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center. She was one of the charter members of the Frauen Verein, or Ladies Aid, which was organized in 1898.
Since 1933, at which time she had blood poisoning, she had been in ill health. In October of the past year she suffered a stroke, from which she never recovered. The nervous paralysis caused her to become weaker and weaker, so that for the last four weeks she was confined to her bed.
Her passing is mourned by her husband, Fred Glawe, Sr.; five children: Mrs. George Kahlbaum, Elkader; Fred Glawe, Jr., St. Olaf; Lawrence Glawe, Elkader; Elmer Glawe, at home; Mrs. John Kluth, Farmersburg; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Seeland, Elkader; and three brothers: John Kruse, Minneapolis, Minn.; Henry Kruse, Farmersburg; and George Kruse, Elkader. Also five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
