DIED - In McGregor, on Thursday, Sept. 29th, of Consumption, after a long illness, borne with most heroic courage, Margaret, wife of Lieut. David Drummond, of Co. B, 21st Iowa infantry.
There is no task so painful to a friend as the announcement of the death of a worthy and loved one. The deceased was born in Glasgow, Scotland January 1st, 1825, and was, therefore, 39 years and 9 months old.
A severe cold, taken last spring, as is too common, was not quickly attended to, and time soon indicated the presence of that Destroyer whose victims may be counted by millions.
The deceased was one of the most amiable of her sex; retiring almost to a fault; a noble wife and most estimable mother. The excellent behavior of the little flock she leaves on earth attests her wisdom as a parent.. The sad faces of the orphans and the bereaved husband who from childhood has been her companion shows the value in which she was held by those who knew her best.
A very large funeral attendance at the Congregational Church, on Sabbath, Oct. 2d, evidenced the appreciation in which she was held by a community who had known her as neighbor and friend for twelve years.
Fortunately the Lieut., her husband was furloughed a few weeks ago and had the mournful satisfaction of attending her bedside in the last hours of her illness.
May the Preserver of all have His protecting arm round the bereaved ones!
