Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon of last week for Mrs. Mary Rayment, 71, who died the previous Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Schmalfeld, near St. Olaf. Mrs. Rayment had been in ill health for several months.
Mary Elizabeth Rantzow, daughter of Ernest and Marie Rantzow, was born Jan. 20, 1879, in Clayton. She received her elementary education in the Clayton Public school. She helped her parents in the general merchandise business until her marriage on Feb. 27, 1902, to Delbert Rayment, which took place at her parents' home in Clayton.
Mr. and Mrs. Rayment rented the Anna Pahlas farm, where their children were born, and lived there until 1913, when they bought land and built new farm buildings on it. In 1946 they retired and moved to Garnavillo. Mr. Rayment died July 06 of last year.
Surviving are two children, Zelda, Mrs. Elmer Schmalfeld, of St. Olaf, and Reuben of McGregor, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 1:30 Wednesday at the Schmalfeld home and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's church with the Rev. A. Meyer conducting the services. Burial was in the local cemetery, with the following as pallbearers: A. W. Moellering, Sr., Guy Burd, Henry Matt, Willis Thoma, Don Overbeck, and K. J. Stiehl.
