A. A. Montour, 58, general manager and president of the National Yeast company, St. Olaf, died at the West Springfield, Mass., home of his son, Capt. Gilbert Montour, Monday morning, Feb. 06. He had been visiting there since January.

The body was brought to St. Olaf where the funeral services were set for Thursday.

Montour's health had been failing since he suffered a stroke last year. In November he and his wife traveled to California and returned to St. Olaf in January before leaving for Massachusetts.

Montour was born and raised near Monona. With Kurdt Hardt, Monona, he organized the National Yeast company at St. Olaf 16 years ago and served as its president and general manager since its organization.

He was also mayor of St. Olaf for some years, was past master of the St. Olaf Masonic lodge and a member of the Cedar Rapids consistory.

He is survived by his widow, a son, Captain Montour, a daughter, LoRayne, of Los Angeles, and a grandson.

Funeral services for Alvin A. Montour, 57, were held from the residence in St. Olaf at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord in charge, in the Witt chapel in Elkader at 2. p.m. where Masonic rites were held. The National Lodge No. 172 A.F. & A.M. of Farmersburg had charge. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Mr. Montour died in the Springfield General hospital at Springfield, Mass., early Monday morning, Feb. 06, 1950. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Alvin A. Montour was born Dec. 10, 1892, at Monona, the son of Benjamin and Marilla Montour. He received his education in the Monona public school. His first occupation was that of secretary and treasurer of the Farmers' Mutual Telephone company.

On Nov. 10, 1913, he was married to Mata Lang of Marquette. Two children, LaRayne and Gilbert, were born to this union. The family home was in Marquette, later in Dubuque, and lastly in St. Olaf, where together with his partner, Kurt J. Hardt, he founded the National Yeast company. He also served as mayor of St. Olaf for a time. He was a member of the National Lodge No. 172 A.F. & A.M., Farmersburg, and the Iowa Consistory at Cedar Rapids.

Survivors are his wife, Mata, his daughter, LaRayne, and his son, Capt. Gilbert E. Montour, of Springfield, Mass., whom he was visiting at the time of his death, a grandson, Gregory Evan, and one brother, Donovan Montour of Des Moines.

Pallbearers were: Everett Hagensick, Vernett Embretson, Gunna_ Landsgard, L. J. Ehrhardt, Philmon Embretson, and A. J. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were: Kurt J. Hardt, Alfred Knudson, and Henry M. Wolf.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dykeman, Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lang, Richard and Myra, Mrs. Charles Vaughan, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lang and Ernestine, Marquette; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Montour and Mrs. Martha Suddendorf Monona; Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McGregor and Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Schaklett, Iowa City.
