Funeral services for Nicholas Johnson were held Sunday, June 14, 1942, at his home at 1:30 and 2 o'clock at the Marion Lutheran church, with the pastor, the Rev. S. . Strandjord, delivering the sermon.
Those who acted as casketbearers, who were all neighbors and friends, were P. N. Peterson, Oscar Lind, Ole E. Olson, Oscar Nyborg, Albert Gulsvig, George Landsgard and Orville Peterson.
Those who acted as flower girls were Frances Peterson, Arlene Peterson, Janet Galer and Rose Hines.
Nicholas Johnson was born Dec. 25, 1868, in Vormland, Sweden, a son of Johan and Annastine Johnson, and died at the Postville hospital, June 11th, 1942, at the age of 74 years, five months and 17 days, after a three years illness. He had been able to be up and around almost every day until the last two or three days.
He came to this country at the age of one year, with his parents, two sisters and one brother. They settled in Marion township, Clayton county, where he has spent his entire life.
He was united in marriage on March 24, 1898, to Augusta Stake. To this union were born five children, two having preceded their father in death, a little girl died in infancy and a son Albert Nelius who died Feb. 29th, 1924, at the age of 17 years. His parents and one sister Mrs. Lars Hauge of Dawson, Minn., died a number of years ago.
Those left to mourn his death are his wife and three daughters, (Alma) now Mrs. Anton Peterson, (Ida) now Mrs. Philip Leuchtenmacher and (Nora) now Mrs. George Larson; five grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Enock Hedlund of Tamarack, Minn., and a brother Carl Johnson of near Gunder, besides a host of relatives and friends.
