Marlin Walter Dettman, 62, of McGregor, Iowa died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 following a long and courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.

Marlin was born February 4, 1958 to Norbert and Mildred (Nuehring) Dettman in Postville, Iowa. In 1967, Marlin along with his parents and grandparents moved from the farm to Luana, Iowa. He graduated from M.F.L. High School with the class of 1975.

Throughout the years Marlin worked for Chase Manufacturing for three years, Tama Star in Marquette, Iowa and in 1987 went to work for Bruce Dillman Equipment, now Astec Industries, where he worked until recently. He loved his job and everyone at Dillman Equipment. Marlin Played softball for Gene’s Place and enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He felt very lucky to have Bridget and his family that he loved so much.

Surviving Marlin are his wife, Bridget Marie Dettman of McGregor, Iowa; his children, Heidi Koehn (Matt Berger) of Elkader, Iowa, Jake (Amy) Dettman of Elkader, Iowa; Colton Dettman (Jordan Dressler) of Monona, Iowa and Keaton Dettman of Farmersburg, Iowa; step-children, Megan Penney (Josh Webber) of West Union, Iowa, Lane Penney (Jordan Kuehl) of Manchester, Iowa and Jordan (Jeanie) Panka; eleven grandchildren; father-in-law, Cecil “Bud” Oakes of Froelich, Iowa; brothers, Harlan (Karla) Dettman and Owen (Twila) Dettman; brother-in-law, Robert Oakes of Lamont, Iowa; sister-in-law, Charlene Gastineau of Brentwood, California; three nieces and one nephew.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Mildred Dettman; and mother-in-law, Charlene Putz

There will be a Public Visitation from 9am to 12pm on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the First Congregation Church in McGregor, Iowa with Rev. William Gentry as the officiant.
It is required that all who are planning to attend the visitation wear a mask and continue social distancing.

The family will be having a Private Graveside Service at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in rural McGregor, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
