Mathias Kasper, one of this communities upright and respected citizens, passed away at his home north of town on Thursday morning, November 5, 1925, after an illness of a long duration and at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 25 days, the cause of his death being cancer of the stomach. Deceased was born in Germany on May 10, 1858, immigrating to the United States when a young man. For a time he settled in the state of Illinois, thence coming to Guttenberg, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life. His occupation being that of a farmer. He was married at Guttenberg to Miss Agnes Gartman, who with one son, Joseph Kasper of this city, survive him. Mr. Kasper was a kind and loving husband and father, always ready with heart and hand to do acts of kindness for his family and friends. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church, and will sadly be missed by his family and friends. All was done for him that could be done to save his life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called him to the Great Beyond on last Thursday morning. The funeral was held on Saturday morning. Rev. H. J. Kreiger conducting services at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
