In a pretty spring wedding at St. Joseph's church, Elkader, Saturday, June 03, Miss Mary Catherine Cox became the bride of Richard Mark Newton. The Very Rev. B. H. Skahill officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cox of Volga and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Newton also of Volga. Robert Cox and Dan Miehe served as alter boys. Miss Joan Newton, sister of the groom, and Francis Cox, brother of the bride attended the couple. Joan and Eileen Cox, sister and niece of the bride were flower girls. Ronald Newton of Dubuque, and Robert Newton of Waterloo, brother and cousin of the groom, were the ushers. At the reception Mr. and Mrs. John Cox of Waterloo, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, opened gifts.
Mrs. Newton is a graduate of Volga high schol and is employed as clerk at the Schrody's Clover Farm Store, Elkader. Her husband attended St. Joseph school, Elkader. He served in the Navy two years in World War II. He is now assisting his father at the carpenter trade.
After a brief wedding trip to Chicago, they will be at home in the McTaggart apartment.
