Mrs. Freeda Mattix
Services Tuesday

Mrs. Freeda Madge Mattix, 64 year old Clarke and Lucas County housewife, died Friday, July 1, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services were held at the Webster Funeral Home in Osceola at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, with Rev. Charlie Mattix of Fremont, Iowa, officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Mattix was born January 1, 1902, in Lucas County, the daughter of Joseph and Candace Rhodes Weaklend. She was educated in the Lucas county schools and on February 4, 1919, married James E. Mattix at Oskaloosa. The couple were the parents of Nine children.

Mrs. Mattix spent her entire life in Lucas and Clarke counties as a mother and farm wife. She was a member of the Osceola Christian church.

Surviving relatives include four sons: Leonard, Leroy and Aaron of Osceola; four daughters: Mrs. Cleta Woolridge of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Ruth Hesseltine, Mrs. Marlene Rusher and Mrs. Edith Rumsey of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Weaklend of Osceola, and a sister, Opha Taylor of New Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, an infant daughter, Cleo; five brothers, Pearl, Hughie, Oscar, Harley and Virgil Weaklend, and two sister, Alta Davidson and Tressie Weaklend.
