Mason City - Dixie Lee Olinger, 53, of 1125 Second St. N.E., Mason City, passed away Friday (Dec. 11, 2009) at Hospice of North Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with Pastor Janet Dorenkamp officiating. There will be no visitation or burial.

Dixie was born on Feb. 20, 1956, in Belmond, the daughter of Merle J. Olinger and Betty L. Fjone. She moved to Florida with her family and graduated from Suncoast Riveria High School in 1974. She then entered the Air Force and served for four years as a medic.

Due to her failing health she received an honorable medical discharge. For the next 17 years she was engaged as a police dispatcher in Florida. For seven years she sang with the Royal Palm Beach Sweet Adalines.

In November of 2002 she moved with her mother back to Iowa. To her friends in Florida she was the class clown and the rock that held them together. She will be remembered for her big heart and concern for others.

Those left to cherish her memories are her boys, (cats) Casey and Smokey, sisters, Dawn Olinger, Tina Winters and Barbie Beck, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Her parents, grandparents, Homer and Jeannette Olinger, Lucretia (Ward) Fjone and Gilbert John Fjone preceded her in death.
