Funeral services for Zella M. Long, 86, Tipton, were held June 29, 1987 at Sheets and Son Funeral Home in Tipton with the Rev. Cleon Ferguson and Verle Neitzel officiating. Marcia Miller was the vocalist and Sylvia Gould was the organist. Pallbearers were Dale Taylor, Joseph Dolan, Alfred Fitch, Wayne Martin, Willard Bennett and Benjamin Marolf. Burial was in the National cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal where graveside services were also held.

Mrs. Long died June 25, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton following an extended illness.

The daughter of Clarence and Dolly Clark Benedict, she was born Sept. 15, 1900 in Tipton. She attended Washington high school in Cedar Rapids. She married Hilbert J. Long Feb. 19, 1921 in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and lived in Tipton for 65 years.

Mrs. Long was active in the World War I Veterans Association, acting as secretary. She was also a member of the Berean Baptist Fellowship and the Wilton Fellowship church.

She is survived by her husband, Hilbert, Tipton; 5 daughters, Mrs. A. Dale (Dorothy) Taylor, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Joe (Marjorie) Dolan, Wausau, Wis.; Mrs. Wayne (Rebecca) Martin, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Harlan (Nancy) Marolf, Montclair, Calif. and Mrs. Willard (Jo) Bennett, Lisbon; 2 sons, Vernon C. Long, Eldridge and J. B. Long, Whittier, Calif.; 43 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a daughter.
