A GOOD MAN GONE.

At 3:30 o'clock Friday morning, after four days' illness, Deacon H. H. Hawks passed into rest. Father Hawks was eight-five years old last September and has been in poor health for the last ten years, although his persistent courage and cheerfulness has kept him very active for one of his years. Only last Sunday, five days ago, he was in his place in the house of God. Father Hawks was a man of singularly blameless and pure life, and bore a reputation untouched by a suspicion of reporoach. Blamelessly erect in his own life, he was yet full of kindly charity for the weak and erring, and had always a gentle word for them. His cheerfulness drew children to him as well as the older ones. He was one who might be safely held up as a model to young men. A devout Christian, scrupulously honest in busniness, without a bad habit, on the right side of every moral question, a public-spirited citizen, keeping himself informed and interested in all the questions of the day, a faithful friend, a devoted husband and father, he rests from life's weariness, while all who knew him rise to call him blessed. He was one of the few men who knew how to be good so gracefully that all men respected him and spoke well of him. He leaves the wife who walked with him for more than fifty years to wait a little while in hope before she goes to join him. Two children, Mr. D. F. Hawks and Mrs. D. H. Stafford, are left to mourn for their father.

The funeral services was held at the Congregatioal church last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
