14 July 1925Well Known Cass Lady Dies at Her Home Today
Mrs. Florence Herbert Smith, Prominent in Buck Creek Church Affairs, Passes This Morning
Mrs. Florence Herbert Smith, wife of Herbert Smith of Pymosa township, well known and prominent lady in church affairs, passed away at her home north of this city at nine o’clock this morning, death resulting from heart trouble and complication. Mrs. Smith was just 39 years of age at the time of her death.
Mrs. Smith was formerly a member of the O.E.S. and has always taken a very active part in the church affairs at the Buck Creek M.E. church, of which she was a member and has had charge of the younger people’s division of Sunday school classes for some time.
Native of Cass
The lady was a native of Cass county, having been born in Brighton township, July 10, 1886, and was a daughter of the late Joseph K. Herbert and wife, well known Cass people.
On July 29, 1908, she was married by Rev. William Stevenson to Herbert Smith.
Surviving the deceased are her husband, one son, Paul, 13, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Stevenson, Atlantic, and three brothers, Melville P. Herbert, Griswold, Ralph L. Herbert, Audubon and Roy J. Herbert, Atlantic. One daughter died in infancy.
Funeral Services
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Buck Creek church, Rev. William Stevenson, former district superintendent of the M.E. church here and minister who wedded the Smiths will officiate. Internment will be at Brighton cemetery.
