Atlantic, Iowa, Tuesday, April 21, 1959Roy Herbert. 80. Atlantic Retired Farmer. Dies
Roy Joseph Herbert of 8 West Ninth Street, died at 8 o'clock this morning at the Atlantic Memorial hospital when he had been a patient most of the time since Feb. 9. He had been in failing health several years.
Mr. Herbert was born in Brighton township May 3, 1878, the son of Joseph K. and Maria Lynch Herbert and was reared on farm northwest of Atlantic. He was married to Mabel Grace Smith Dec. 20, 1890, at the T. G. Smith home north of Atlantic. They lived north of here, with the exception of two years they resided south of Anita, until moving to Atlantic in 1948.
Mr. Herbert was a member of the Buck Creek Methodist church and Buck Creek Service class and was a former township trustee. Surviving are his wife, a son, Joseph Thomas Herbert of Atlantic: three daughters Mrs. Irene Butler, Mrs. Ada Jensen of Atlantic and Mrs. Annabelle Thompson of Clearfield; a brother, Ralph Herbert of Audubon; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A son, Harry, died in 1903 and he was also preceded in death by a brother, Melville and three sisters, Florence Smith, Ruth Stevenson and Myrl Herbert.
Funeral Services will be held at the Buck Creek Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 3:30, the Revs. W.C. Trembly and Charles Hohanshelt officiating. The remains will be taken from Roland funeral home to the church at 11 o’clock Thursday morning and internment will be in the Brighton township cemetery.
