Crossed Atlantic Ocean Forty Times on U. S. Battleship Utah
Funeral tomorrow

Charles Lynn Bixby, 36 a veteran of the world war who crossed the Atlantic Ocean forty times on a transport ship passed away at 8:45 last evening at the Atlantic hospital where he had been a patient for eight hours. Death was caused by an abscess on the brain.

Mr. Bixby has been in poor health for a number of years and was taken seriously ill Tuesday morning. When his condition became critical yesterday morning he was removed from his home to the hospital and he grew steadily worse until death came.

Had good Service Record

At the time war was declared on Germany, Bixby was a sailor with the United States navy and was stationed on the U. S. Battleship Utah. The battleship was used as a transport ship and Bixby crossed the ocean 40 times in two years. After the Armistice Bixby was stationed in Russia with the United States forces for nine months

Bixby had one of the best service records of any local man who saw service overseas.

Born at Eldora

He was born at Eldora, Iowa on June 1, 1897 being a son of R. W. and Jessie Bixby. He was reared near State Center, Iowa and on June 16, 1927 was united in marriage in Atlantic, Iowa to Miss Ida Mae Foster.

He is survived by his father R. W. Bixby of this city, His mother Mrs. Jessie Bixby of Marshalltown, His wife, two small children, Rhea and Lynn, and one brother, Harvey M. Bixby of Milwaukee Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Roland Peacock & Baxter funeral home. Interment will be in Atlantic Cemetery.

Funeral Notice for Charles Bixby

At 2:30 this afternoon at the Roland Peacock & Baxter funeral home final rites were held for Charles L. Bixby, 36 a world war veteran who died Wednesday evening. Rev. L. M. Grigsby of Methodist Episcopal Church officiated.

Mrs. Effie Hanson & Mrs. Eunice Butts, accompanied by Mrs. Gladys Seamon, furnished music for the rites

Pallbearers were Clarence Sutherland, Albert Adams, Cecil Rector, Charles Drake, Earl Boggs, & Oscar Johnson.

Interment was in Atlantic Cemetery.
