From the Atlantic News Telegraph, p3, June 13, 1931, “Young Woman Dies Early Today After Lingering Illness - Mettie [should be Mellie] Mildred Matthews, 25, an invalid with tuberculosis for the last ten years, died this morning at 2:30 at her home, 203 Maple Street. She was born May 17, 1906 near Cumberland and attended schools there and in Atlantic She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Matthews, who with one brother, Donald her paternal grandparents and her maternal grandfather survive. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Matthews, 905 East Sixth Street and the maternal grandfather is Emery Misner, Sixth and Spruce street. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Young funeral home, Fifth and Poplar Streets. The Rev. William Mack of the First Presbyterian church will officiate and burial will be in the Atlantic cemetery.”
