Home of Mrs. Joseph Herbert Scene of Pretty Wedding Las Evening.
The marriage of Miss Florence Herbert ad Mr. Herbert Smith was a beautiful home wedding of last evening, and one of the interesting July nuptials.
The residence of the bride’s mother Mrs. Joseph Herbert, 1105 Locust St., was decorated elaborately in a pink and white color scheme and the rooms presented a most attractive appearance. Quantities of green were used as an effective back-ground [background] for the pink and white carnations which were entwined among ropes of smilax in door arches, on chandeliers and stair balustrade.
The guests, numbering thirty, consisting only of relatives of the bride and groom, were received by the bride’s mother.
Miss Zella Lynch rendered some very pretty musical selections during the evening, and before the ceremony Miss Margaret Birdsall of Des Moines sang “Enchantment” and “I Love You Truly.” At 8 o’clock Mrs. Wm. Bixby of Walnut began Mendelashon’s [Mendelsohn’s] wedding march as the bridal party descended the stairs, Messrs. Earl Smith, Shelly Smith, Clarence Smith and Chester Smith, brothers of the groom, carried pink and white ribbons to form an aisle for the bridal party from the stairs to the west parlor where the ceremony was performed before an elaborate banking of palms, ferns and flowers. The marriage ceremony was performed by Reverend Stevenson.
During the evening refreshments were served. The table was decorated in a particularly attractive mannor [manner] with bridesmaid roses and pink shaded candles in cut glass candelabra.
Among the guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Herbert of Audubon; Mr. and Mrs. William Bixby and daughter, Miss Frankie Bixby, of Walnut; and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Herbert of Anita.
The bride and groom left this morning for a short trip to Denver and Colorado Springs, and upon their return they will be at home in Atlantic. When they return they will be given a reception at the home of Mrs. Earl Smith. One hundred and fifty invitations have been issued.
Mrs. Smith is a well knwn [known] Atlantic girl with a large circle of friends, and Mr. Smith is a son of the late Thos. G. Smith. They will be at home after August 10.
