In Response To: Iowa Hospital for the Insane, Independence (Paula Hartman)

Paula, Found a census(1880) that includes patients at the Iowas Hospital for the Insane. To answer your question.. the page that i looked at had mostly Epilepsy, or something else that Starts with a PH and ends in Itis. (inflamation of something). It is my understanding that pts. in those days could be committed for anything from Blindness to being a deaf mute. Illnesses like epilepsy, etc., that are easily managed or understood these days, were not so easily understood, or treated back then. If You find any more info out about the IA. Hosp for the insane, please let me know..Particularly pt. records. Good Luck, Kim
