LeRoy A. Nickerson, 85, of Winthrop, Iowa, died on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Church of Christ United, Winthrop, with Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home, Winthrop and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

There will be a graveside military service by the U.S. Army and the Patriot Honor Guard.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop, Iowa.

LeRoy Allan Nickerson was born October 23, 1935 in Manchester, Iowa the son of Glen Victor & Mabel Elizabeth (Blosch) Nickerson. He received his education from the Lamont Consolidated Schools. LeRoy honorable served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. He was united in marriage to Cloey Anna Sauer on August 10, 1958 in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with seven children. LeRoy had worked as a farmer, at John Deere, Triangle Plastics, as an East Buchanan bus driver and at Walmart until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking but will be remembered by his family as a jack of all trades. LeRoy was a member of the Church of Christ United in Winthrop and the American Legion Post #435 in Aurora. He will be remembered by his family for his love and kindness as a husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and uncle.

LeRoy is survived by his Wife: Cloey Nickerson of Winthrop; Daughter: Kathy (Rick) Bendixen of Zearing; 5 Sons: Michael Nickerson of Hobart, Wisconsin, Glen (Sandy) Nickerson of Springdale, Arkansas, Rick (Nina) Nickerson of Austin, Texas, Scott (Lena) Nickerson of Kennewick, Washington & Brett (Lynn) Nickerson of Montrose, Colorado; 29 Grandchildren: Beth Dean, Abby Ebensberger, Brian Nickerson, Kari Sinopoli, Tiffany Mueller, Jonathan Bendixen, Chelsea Chokas, Morgan Reeves, Jasmine Cochran, Alisha Urich, Cori Nickerson, Tabitha Nickerson, Shayla Nickerson, Codi Nickerson, Mackenzie Falk, Merry Lee Nickerson, Jacob Nickerson, Mallory Anderson, Emily Nickerson, Cierra Gordon, Justin Nickerson, Natalie Nickerson, Delaney Nickerson, Eric Nickerson, Anna Nickerson, Anna Forbes, Abby Forbes, Jayden Polansky, Kyle Polansky; 22 Great Grandchildren and many Nieces & Nephews.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; son: Loni Nickerson; granddaughter: Nicole Bendixen; siblings: William Nickerson & Ruth Swanson.
