Charles “Chuck” R. Simms, 75, of Independence, IA died on Wednesday June 16, 2021, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Charles was born on June 8, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, IA the son of Ronald R. and Myrtle (Manke) Simms. He was a 1964 graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School. Later that same year he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. He returned to Cedar Rapids after his service and went to work at Wilsons Meat Processing. On June 22, 1970, he married Susan K. Boyse in Reno, NV, and made their home in Cedar Rapids. In 1973, they moved to Pampa, TX and later to Tennessee, where he worked as a Foreman in a meat processing plant. He retired in 1980 and quickly found out he was not ready to. He went back to work for the Becktel Corporation as a welder and pipefitter. They followed work throughout the United States until he retired again in 2008. They purchased a camper and traveled between Iowa and Mississippi.

Chuck was an avid outdoors man. He loved to go hunting and fishing. He had stories he loved to tell about elk hunting in the Rockies. Every year they would travel to see family in Wyoming, and he would make the most of those trips by fitting in a hunt.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Simms, Independence, IA, a son, Todd (Michelle) Simms, Brandon, FL, his grandchildren, Londyn and Lincoln, and a sister-in-law, Denise (Kim) Seeley, Stone City, IA.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Myrtle Simms, and his father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Joan Boyse.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Buchanan County Fair Grounds at 5 PM on Sunday June 27, 2021
