I did a little checking but didn't have any luck. Black Hawk County courthouse does not have birth or death records for 1904 or 1905. You would have to have the State of Iowa check for those. I was unable to locate a marriage record for them in Black Hawk County marriage records. I checked from 1895 through 1904 and fpund nothing. If you can come up with a death date, I'll be happy to search through the Waterloo Courier newspaper microfilms. Do you have any idea of which cemetery that helena/Lena was buried in? I checked a few cemetery books for Black Hawk County but could not find here name listed. If the burial was in a rural township cemetery or near La Porte City, I don't have those files to check. I checked the WPA Cemetery records for Black Hawk County and the only Mellinger listed in those was a Mrs. F. L. Mellinger with a death year of 1931.
