PFC. STRUBEL KILLED ON SAIPAN
Pfc. Charles B. Strubel, 26, was killed in action on Saipan Island July 20, according to a war department telegram received here yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Strubel, Route 4.
Private Strubel was inducted in October, 1942, and trained at Fort Warren, Wyo., and Camp Butner, N. C., before going overseas in the spring of 1943. He participated in both the Marshall Islands invasion and operations on Saipan.
He was born Feb. 12, 1918 in Waterloo, son of William and Helena Strubel, and was educated at St. Mary's school in Carmel Parish, Eagle Center. Private Strubel had been farming with his parents before entering the armed service.
Surviving are the parents, three brothers, Cpl. Edward Strubel stationed with the army in the Aleutian Islands, William and Albert, at home, and five sisters: Mrs. Mary Bedard, route 4, Mrs. Ray Vogt and Miss Helena Strubel, 1419 Franklin Street, Mrs Frances Herrmann, 428 Washington Street, Waterloo, and Miss Josephine Strubel. A requiem high mass for Pfc. Charles Strubel, who was killed July 20 on Saipan, will be held at 7:45 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Martin officiating.
