Raymond E. George, 71, of 1907 Garling Dr., Bloomington, Ill., died May 5, 2005, at 7:25 p.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, Ill.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10, 2005, from 1 to 2 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or McLean County Art Center.

Raymond was born Sept. 13, 1933, in Cedar Falls, a son of Ellis and Carole Brown George. They preceded him in death. He married Elaine Kiger on Aug. 9, 1958, in Spencer. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Gregory (Joy) George of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Pamela Yoder of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Susan, Erica, and David George; one brother, Warren (Allaire) George of Waterloo; and one sister, Mary Ann (Gary) Syhlman of New Port Richey, Fla.

Raymond began his teaching career at Dubuque Sr. High School, Dubuque, then was a lecturer in art and printmaking at Clarke College, Dubuque. He was instructor and critic teacher at Laboratory High School, Indiana University and University of Northern Iowa; assistant professor of art at University of Nebraska; professor of art emeritus, drawing and printmaking, Center for the Visual Arts, Illinois State University, Normal, Ill., for 27 years.

In addition, Ray George has been a guest artist, participated in workshops, and his prints, and drawings have been exhibited and collected throughout the United States. He loved teaching and hearing of the accomplishments of his students.

Raymond is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
