Evelyn H. Christen, 99, formerly of Amana, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of congestive heart failure.

She was born April 1, 1902, in Paramis, N.J., daughter of George and Julia Mabie Lutkins. She married Fred W. Christen on April 17, 1902, in Newark, N.J. He died Sept. 14, 1971.

Mrs. Christen was a furniture finisher for Kraus Furniture, South Amana, for many years.

Survived by a son, Fred G. of Waterloo; and two grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by four brothers: Reginold, Louis, Benjamin and George Lutkins; and three sisters: Julia Derby, and Helen and Harriett Lutkins in infancy.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with burial in Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
