JOYCE E. SHUMAKER
WATERLOO - Funeral services for Joyce E. Shumaker were held Friday, June 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. O'Keefe & Towne - Grarup & Waychoff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, where a rosary and vigil service were held Thursday.
Mrs. Shumaker, 76, died of a heart attack Monday, June 23, 1997, at the Covenant Medical Center emergency room.
She was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Lansing, the daughter of Carl August and Stella Mary Rundle Lund. She married Kenneth Mark Shumaker on Jan. 25, 1941, in West Union. Mrs. Shumaker graduated from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, with a teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Fairbank and later worked at Varsity Cleaners and J .C. Penney.
Survivors include six sons; Dennis of San Antonio, Texas, Terrence of Elgin, Ill., and John, James, Ken and Steven, all from Waterloo; five daughters, Judi Duffy of Poway, Calif., Janet Tibbetts of Ames, Diane Kasak of Carlsbad, Calif., Katye Hemmen of Cedar Falls, Mary Lynne of Iowa City; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Lund of McGregor; and three sisters, Bonnie Olsen of Waterloo, Dorothy Raether of St. Louis and Rita Engelhardt of Rochester, Min.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ken, Oct. 27, 1991; one son, Patrick Dean; and a sister, Elseine Lund.
