Funeral services for Hazel G. Fattic, 97, of Niles, MI, were conducted Aug. 27, at Niles Westside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with Pastor John Abbott officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs, MI.

Hazel G. Fattic, the daughter of A.P. and Elsie Katrina Christensen Hanson, was born Feb. 11, 1908, in Exira and died Aug. 24, 2005, at home, following a brief illness.

On Aug. 21, 1939, in Exira, she married Grover R. Fattic, Jr., M.D. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2003.

She was a Niles resident since 1946, coming from Lincoln, NE. Hazel maintained her license as a registered nurse, but retired years ago after working with her husband’s private family practice.

She was a long-time member of Niles Westside SDA Church. She also worked at the church’s Community Services. She was a graduate of LaSierra College/Loma Linda University, Class of 1936. She was a member of Berrien Springs Garden and Camera clubs, and Love Inc. of Niles.

In 1963, with her husband, she was active in the Mission Hospital in Rwanda.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Grover R. Fattic, Jr.; a son, Grosvenor R. Fattic, on Nov. 3, 1987; sisters: Lillie Christensen and Maggie Sorenson; brothers: Jim O. Hanson and Alfred Hanson; sisters: Elsie Hanson and Dollie Knudsen; and brothers: William and Russell Hanson.

Hazel is survived by her sons: Richard G. and wife, LoNita Fattic of Khartoum, Sudan; and Douglas and wife, Sue Fattic of Niles; granddaughter, Lori Fattic of Bozeman, MT; grandsons: Richard G. Fattic II of Portland, OR; and Kurt Fattic of Bowling Green, KY; granddaughter, Christy Fattic of Niles; daughter-in-law, Linda Fattic of Riverside, CA; sister, Ida Roberts of Hood River, OR; and a brother, Harrison Hanson of LaFollette, TN.

Relatives in the area are: Janice Fancher; Wilma Layland; Tillie Christensen; Betty Lang, Audubon; and Maxine Christensen of Exira.
