Funeral services for Shirley J. Stebbins, 70, of Red Oak, formerly of Audubon, were conducted Sept. 15, 2005 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.

Shirley Jo Stebbins, the daughter of Ralph and Vera Caruth Stebbins was born March 19, 1935, in Sheldon and died Sept. 12, 2005, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness.

The family lived in Estherville, Sioux City, and Missouri Valley before moving to Red Oak in 1940, when Shirley was five years old. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1952 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1956. She taught school in Audubon from 1956 until retiring in 1993. She was an elementary vocal music instructor. Shirley moved back to Red Oak in 1998.

She was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, the Audubon Elementary Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law: Blaine Humphrey.

Shirley is survived by her two sisters: Geraldine Humphrey of Council Bluffs; and Phyllis Stebbins of Red Oak; two brothers: Ralph Stebbins, JR. and wife, Evelyn of Nixa, MO; and Robert Stebbins and wife, Joan of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews: Robert Stebbins, Jr. and wife, Louisa of Eldorado Hills, CA; Diane Michalski and husband Blake of Omaha, NE; Susan Steffens of Omaha, NE; and John Humphrey and wife Lynne of Carroll; 10 great nieces and nephews; and long time teacher friend: LaVonne Godfrey of Audubon.
